about

‘Smile, It’s Sam’ is the latest single release from RON MOZART. The song is about a very special little boy who needs YOUR help.

Sam is 5 years old. He loves being in the swimming pool with his friends and playing on swings and slides. He likes to eat bananas, grapes, yoghurt and cake. He adores his six year-old sister and his four rescue cats. He protests if he has to stop doing something he is enjoying. He runs around a lot and hardly ever sits still, unless he is snuggling under a duvet on the sofa, watching his favourite film ‘Monsters University’.

Does this sound familiar to anyone who has been in contact with a child his age?

Sam is tall and now quite heavy to carry, though he often requests this by holding his arms up. He has the most gorgeous blue/green eyes and an absolutely fantastic smile. He touches everyone he meets, both literally and figuratively and he radiates joy. He also achieves milestones which previously seemed out of reach…. because Sam has a rare, genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome. So he is not actually your typical 5 year old!

This means he does not speak and he has cognitive impairment, developmental delays and low muscle tone amongst other things. However, he communicates well in so many ways; you just have to watch and feel what he is saying.

Sam brightens people’s days and he has no idea he is responsible for this. It’s truly remarkable to witness! His smile even helped light up the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, on 15 February 2020. They made a video of his visit there on International Angelman Day (please check it out on social media). Sam’s life expectancy is ‘normal’, meaning that he may live to the age of eighty years-old. He needs care for twenty four hours per day, seven days per week. He will need this care for the rest of his life.

“Smile, it’s Sam” is a beautiful song which has been written by Ron Mozart, a good friend of his family to raise awareness of this unique syndrome. Hardly anyone has heard of it, so this song aims to change that.

We really hope you will smile with Sam. He is rare, he is 1 in 20,000 (1 in 375,000 due to the reason why he has AS) and he is an incredible little boy!

lyrics

Smile. It's Sam

Beautiful eyes and a wonderful smile,
He gets what he wants by using his guile.
He soon learned to follow his daily routine,
He drinks, then he plays, before lying down to dream.

Smile, it's Sam.

Listening to music and watching TV,
He'll open the door if you give him the key.
Danger is something that he'll never know,
He has no idea of just where he'll go.

Smile, it's Sam.

Sam loves the water and swinging on swings,
Destroying old books and all sorts of things.
Tremulous movements and little need fro sleep,
Unprovoked laughter, unable to speak.

Smile, It's Sam.

A catalyst for people to socialize and laugh.
This boy who's always smiling and spreading so much joy,
Touches and inspires those who meet the angel boy.

He created a flood in the bathroom, one day,
Then he climbed the stairs, on his own, all the way.
The attention he requires is easy to give,
This beautiful boy has shown us all how to live.

about

Ron Mozart Wagoner, Oklahoma

Ron Mozart: I've been a singer-songwriter for over 40 years. My music is a paradox, it is highly original, yet derivative of the many genres and styles that I have assimilated, over the years.

I write both words and music, generally, although I do like to collaborate with a lyricist, occasionally. I write songs with meanings, characters, events and stories, some true and some false - you decide!
